A 32-year-old woman was arrested by the Judicial Police (PJ) for allegedly starting a forest fire in Pinhel, a situation that arose from ongoing conflicts with her neighbors. The incident occurred on Friday night, with the suspect reportedly using a lighter to ignite the fire directly, aiming to intimidate her neighbors. This reckless act not only endangered the local community but also occurred on a day marked by several forest fires in the same region.
The arrest was made by inspectors from the Guarda Investigation Department (DIC), in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Unit and the local GNR station in Pinhel. According to the PJ, the suspect's actions were driven by her contentious relationship with her neighbors, leading her to commit this dangerous act out of spite.
The detained woman is set to appear in court for her first judicial interrogation, where the possibility of coercive measures will be considered. The investigation is being overseen by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Guarda, highlighting the seriousness of the crime amidst Portugal's ongoing battle against forest fires.
