The ALGARVE 2030 Regional Program recently hosted a Regional Meeting of TEIP Schools in collaboration with CCDR Algarve, AMAL, DGE, DGEstE, Algarve School Groups, and the Municipality of Albufeira.
On June 11, 2025, the Municipal Auditorium of Albufeira became the stage for a regional day of reflection and promotion of best educational practices. This event, organized by ALGARVE 2030 in partnership with key educational bodies, brought together policymakers, experts, researchers, teachers, and school leaders to discuss school success and educational equity.
The Algarve faces significant challenges, including higher-than-average school retention and dropout rates, prompting the need for innovative and inclusive strategies in schools within socially vulnerable areas. José Apolinário, President of CCDR Algarve, proposed the creation of a Regional Network Forum to foster continuous sharing of best practices and collaborative solutions to combat school failure and dropout rates.
Key themes of the meeting included:
- Initial learning of reading and writing
- Welcoming and including diversity
- Pedagogical innovation
- Community mobilization
- The role of teachers as content animators
- Statistics on school (un)success
The event highlighted the importance of European Cohesion Funds in supporting educational success, with the TEIP program playing a pivotal role in reversing national school failure rates. The ALGARVE 2030 Program has earmarked 5.2 million euros over three academic years to benefit nearly 20,000 students across 16 school groups in 9 municipalities.
Presentations and materials from the meeting will soon be available on the ALGARVE 2030 website.
