A devastating car crash in southern Portugal has resulted in the loss of four members of a UK-based family and two others, casting a shadow over what was supposed to be a joyful holiday. The incident occurred near Faro, in Castro Verde, involving a collision between two vehicles.
The Victims
- Domingos Serrano, 55, Maria Serrano, 51, and their twin sons Domingos and Afonso, both 20, were identified as the family members who tragically lost their lives.
- Additionally, the 19-year-old girlfriend of one of the sons and the 26-year-old driver of the other car also died in the crash.
The Serrano family, residing in Thetford, Norwich, were not British nationals but were well-integrated into the local community. They were en route from Faro to Mourao for their "usual and deserved vacation" when the accident happened.
Community Mourning
In response to the tragedy, the Mourao authorities declared two days of mourning, expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Thetford Town Youth Football Club also paid tribute, highlighting the twins' involvement with the team and the "massive void" their loss has created.
