Dramatic images have emerged showing a 'fire tornado' during the wildfire in Alvite, Moimenta da Beira, last night. The footage, shared by Meteo Trás os Montes - Portugal, captures the terrifying moment a whirlwind formed amidst the flames.
The wildfire in Alvite continues to rage this Saturday, with two active fronts and is currently the fire mobilizing the most firefighters, around 400 operational personnel supported by nine aerial means. It broke out on Friday, threatening homes in Paraduça during the early hours and later in Alvite this morning.
"The population is helping firefighters with water tankers because this area has a lot of livestock and many agricultural fruit lands, and these people have the tanks," explained João Silva, a member of the Moimenta da Beira Firefighters' board, to Lusa.

This heightened alert will last until 23:59 on the 12th, aiming to reinforce the pre-positioning of resources in anticipation of a "significant complexity" in meteorological conditions during this period.
