Constitutional Court Previously Deemed Loss of Nationality for Criminal Acts Unconstitutional

Luís Montenegro highlighted today the potential expansion of scenarios where nationality could be revoked due to very serious behaviors, particularly of a criminal nature. This announcement was made during the debate on the Government's Program in the Assembly of the Republic.


The government plans to introduce restrictions to the Nationality Law, including extending the deadline for nationality requests by naturalization and broadening the conditions under which nationality can be lost, especially for grave criminal behaviors. This move revisits a topic previously deemed unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court.
