Designers Bring Lisbon's Architecture to Life

Two Brazilian designers have launched a stunning new collection of earrings and scarves inspired by their stroll through the neighborhoods of Alvalade and Areeiro. The collection captures the essence of Lisbon's architecture, from the azulejos in the Alvalade metro to the intricate designs of São João de Brito Church.

Now, instead of just walking through these vibrant streets, you can literally wear Alvalade and Areeiro wherever you go.

A Creative Collaboration

The accessories are now part of the fashion offerings at Uma Volta em Lisboa, a newly inaugurated boutique located near the Alvalade metro station. This charming shop occupies the spot of a traditional newspaper kiosk, now transformed into a fashion haven.

The store is the brainchild of designers Marina Borba and Amanda Braga, who have been friends since their university days in Recife. Their journey through life has led them back together to create this unique venture.

Inspiration from Architecture

Marina, who has lived in Lisbon for nearly a decade, drew inspiration from her experiences running an art gallery alongside her husband. Amanda, now based in Madrid, has a rich background in fashion, having managed one of Recife's most renowned brands.

During their daily walks from their kiosk to the Nova Banca gallery, the duo conceptualized a collection influenced by the captivating architecture of their neighborhoods. Amanda emphasizes that architecture has always been a significant inspiration, recalling how she previously designed a collection based on the curves of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.

A Bold Reception

Despite initial concerns that their vibrant designs might clash with the conservative tastes of the local clientele, the reception has been overwhelmingly positive. Marina reports that women, even those in their fifties, are eager to try on the colorful pieces, often stopping to experiment with the earrings and scarves in front of the kiosk mirror.

Amanda, who previously studied in Portugal, is pleasantly surprised by the acceptance of bold colors and styles, a shift from her earlier experience where pastel tones dominated.

The Collection Launch

The new collection, reflecting the vibrant colors of Alvalade and Areeiro, was launched in spring to coincide with the blooming beauty of these neighborhoods. The pieces are available at the kiosk-store of Uma Volta em Lisboa, offering a unique blend of Brazilian flair and Lisbon charm.
