All three crew members aboard the Canadair escaped unharmed and were successfully rescued. The plane remains immobilized in the river, awaiting recovery by the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
The incident occurred around 3:20 PM, during ongoing efforts to combat a wildfire that began on Tuesday in Penafiel and has since spread to Gondomar. At the time of the emergency landing, over 200 personnel and nearly 60 vehicles were deployed to fight the blaze, supported by two aerial means.
This event highlights the challenges and risks faced by firefighting teams during Portugal's wildfire season. The community and emergency services continue to work tirelessly to protect lives and property from the advancing flames.
