A man walked into São José Hospital in Lisbon this Thursday, delivering a severed head believed to be connected to a decapitated body found the previous day in the city center.
The story was first reported by the newspaper Observador and later confirmed to SIC by the Public Security Police (PSP).
The PSP, which has a police station at the hospital, took charge of the incident until the arrival of the Judicial Police (PJ) inspectors, who are leading the investigation.
According to SIC's findings, the man, approximately 30 years old, entered the hospital around 3:30 PM carrying the head. He first approached hospital staff, stating that the head was related to the decapitated body discovered yesterday in Pátio Salema, central Lisbon.
The man is currently in the custody of the PJ, with the homicide investigation underway. He could either be a suspect or "someone who found and delivered" the head, as indicated by the PSP to Lusa news agency.
Crime Linked to Drug Trafficking
The SIC reporting team visited the crime scene earlier today, finding numerous syringes commonly used for drug consumption.
A worker at the nearby Lawyers' Order expressed deep concern to SIC, citing the area's high drug use and frequent conflicts.
Construction workers at the site revealed to SIC that a security guard found the body around 6:10 AM yesterday, lying face down with a hat near the neck.
The victim's identity and the motive behind the crime remain unknown, but evidence suggests a possible connection to drug trafficking.
