The Government of Guinea-Bissau has ordered the immediate closure of RTP África, RDP África, and Lusa Agency operations, a move described by the Portuguese Government as "highly censurable and unjustifiable". The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has vehemently repudiated the decision, emphasizing the importance of these media outlets for the Lusophone community.
The Portuguese Government is committed to reversing this decision, highlighting the deep friendship between Portugal and Guinea-Bissau and the priority of maintaining high-quality bilateral relations. The ambassador of Guinea-Bissau in Lisbon has been summoned for explanations.
"A deliberate attack on freedom of expression"
The directors of RTP, RDP, and Lusa have jointly condemned the Guinean Government's decision, labeling it as a deliberate attack on freedom of expression and an attempt to silence journalists. They demand the right for their journalists to continue informing in Guinea-Bissau.
The RTP's Board of Directors expressed deep indignation, noting this as the culmination of recent incidents against their professionals and assets in Guinea-Bissau. They emphasize the mission to inform and the support historically provided to Guinean public media by the Portuguese group.
