The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has extended the yellow weather warning due to high temperatures until 00:00 on Tuesday for 14 districts in Mainland Portugal. The warning will end today at 18:00 only in Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, and Lisbon.
Affected Districts
- Beja, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Portalegre, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, and Viseu will remain under the yellow warning until Tuesday.
Weather Forecast
- Hot weather with temperatures above the seasonal average is expected in the coming days.
- This rise in temperature is due to an anticyclone over the Azores and a ridge extending to the Bay of Biscay, bringing warm and dry continental air to the Iberian Peninsula.
Temperature Expectations
- Maximum temperatures will exceed 30°C across most of the country, with some areas, particularly in Alentejo, the Tagus Valley, and the Douro Valley, reaching up to 40°C.
- Only some areas along the western coast may see temperatures below 30°C, thanks to the moderate sea breeze in the afternoons.
- Minimum temperatures will also be high, not dropping below 20°C in some regions, especially in the south, Tagus Valley, and Beira Baixa.
