Lisbon Libraries to Offer Extended Hours from September 15
In a move to better serve the community, nine libraries under the management of the Lisbon City Council will have their opening hours extended starting September 15. This initiative, part of the city's strategic goals, adds approximately 40 extra days of operation annually, marking a significant improvement in accessibility.
For the past two decades, library schedules have been inconsistent, varying week by week. Now, they will be standardized and expanded to enhance services for local residents. The Anchor Libraries – including Alcântara, Marvila, and Palácio Galveias – will be open from Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Additionally, the Sala Saramago at Palácio Galveias will operate from 8:00 PM to midnight.

The Neighborhood Libraries – Belém, Camões, Coruchéus, Orlando Ribeiro, Penha de França, and the Municipal Hemeroteca – will open from Monday to Friday and on the first and third Saturday of each month, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
This change coincides with the start of the winter schedule and aims to fulfill municipal objectives. The recently inaugurated António Mega Ferreira Library, which houses the collection of the Expo 98 commissioner and writer who passed away in 2022, remains open 24/7 every day of the week.
