A 52-year-old man was arrested by Lisbon's PSP Traffic Division for impersonating a police officer. The suspect was caught during a routine traffic stop on Saturday, dressed in a police uniform complete with a badge and equipped with blue strobe lights, a radio, and even a camera mimicking a radar device on his car's rearview mirror.
The elaborate setup included:
- A police-style uniform with a blue polo shirt, black tactical vest adorned with insignias, dark tactical pants, and military-style boots.
- A fake police badge and a wallet with identification similar to that used by real officers.
- Police car equipment such as a siren, radio communication devices, and a sound system for external announcements.
- A tactical bag containing an iron bar, flashlights, orange signaling cones, and Velcro straps labeled "Inspection."
During the search, authorities also found a device for emergency signaling in the engine compartment. The suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing these items, leading to the seizure of his vehicle and all the equipment.
This incident raises concerns about public safety and the impersonation of authority figures, with the suspect now facing charges related to crimes against public authority.
