Lisbon's Glória Elevator, a historic landmark, is set for a major technological transformation following a recent accident that injured 16 people. The Lisbon City Council has announced the formation of a dedicated mission team to conceive a new system for the elevator.
Carlos Moedas, the Mayor of Lisbon, expressed gratitude, stating: "I thank the availability and commitment of all these reference professionals who were ready, from the first hour, for everything necessary related to this accident."
The team includes top experts from key institutions:
- From the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC): Civil engineer Luís Oliveira, Director of the Structures Department, and mechanical engineer João Viegas, Director of the Center for Scientific Instrumentation and Information Technologies.
- Representing the Order of Engineers: Ricardo da Cunha Reis, President of the College of Engineering and Quality, and Manuel Tender, Coordinator of the Work Safety Group.
- From the Instituto Superior Técnico: Jorge Ambrósio, a Full Professor specializing in Structural and Computational Mechanics.
The first meeting between all team members and the mayor is scheduled for next week, marking a critical step forward in enhancing safety and innovation for this beloved transport system.
