The districts of Setúbal, Évora, Beja, and Faro are under an orange weather warning on Wednesday, the second most severe level, due to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, as reported by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
Weather Warnings in Effect
These IPMA warnings are active from 3:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, prompted by persistent and heavy precipitation, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts.
In the Algarve, there is a possibility of waves up to four meters high coming from the southwest.
Broader Impact Across Portugal
All other Portuguese districts are under a yellow warning, the least severe of the three levels, also due to rain, mostly between 6:00 AM and midnight.
In mountainous regions and the southern coast of the Madeira archipelago, alongside the rain, strong winds are expected from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with gusts potentially reaching 100 kilometers per hour.
The orange warning is issued by IPMA when there is a moderate to high-risk meteorological situation, while the yellow warning indicates a risk for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.
