Jerónimo Guerreiro, a former paratrooper for four years and a volunteer firefighter in the Lisbon region, has died in the Kupiansk area of eastern Ukraine. His death was reported by the Expresso newspaper and confirmed by the Secretary of State for Communities, José Cesário.
Guerreiro lost his life on the battlefield, near Kupiansk, in a region currently controlled by Russian forces. The Portuguese government has assured his family that it will do everything possible to recover his body.
Having served as a paratrooper in the Portuguese Army, Guerreiro was fighting alongside Ukrainian forces at the time of his death. His bravery and sacrifice highlight the international dimension of the conflict in Ukraine.
