A PSP officer from the Loures station allegedly fired shots at a passenger bus in the same locality this Sunday, according to a statement from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command. The incident resulted in a 16-year-old youth being injured.
The bus driver reported the incident to the PSP after continuing to drive for another kilometer post-shooting, eventually arriving at the Loures station. Reports suggest that the five recorded shots may be linked to a 'traffic altercation'.
The PSP has identified the shooter as one of their own officers, leading to the seizure of the firearm and the immediate suspension of the officer involved. The case has been handed over to the Judicial Police (PJ) for further investigation, as is standard with firearm-related incidents.
The PSP expressed regret over the incident, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured youth, and stated that they are awaiting the outcome of the criminal investigation while proceeding with disciplinary actions.
This event has raised concerns about police conduct and public safety, with the community awaiting further details from the ongoing investigations.
