Summary:

  • Ryanair passengers stranded for over 3 hours on the tarmac without food or water

  • Flight diverted to Porto Santo due to high winds preventing landing in Madeira

  • Passengers denied free food and water, told to pay for snacks

  • Police called after complaints about the lack of basic necessities

  • Airline's service desk found closed during operating hours upon arrival

Passengers on Ryanair flight FR6051, scheduled from Porto to Madeira at 4:50 PM on Tuesday, were stranded on the plane for over 3 hours on the Porto Santo runway.

The Ordeal Begins

A passenger shared with DIÁRIO that around 6:30 PM, the pilot announced they were about to descend but later informed them that landing was impossible due to wind limits. For at least half an hour, passengers were left without any updates.

Diverted to Porto Santo

By 7:30 PM, passengers were told the flight would divert to Porto Santo Airport. They landed at 7:37 PM but remained on the tarmac inside the aircraft for over 3.5 hours without food or water. Requests for basic necessities were met with refusal, as flight attendants stated they had no orders to provide free food or water.

Frustration Mounts

As frustration grew, a passenger's complaint about the lack of water and food led to flight attendants calling the police. Despite attempts to land in Madeira again around 11 PM, unfavorable conditions forced a return to Porto Santo.

A Night to Forget

By 1 AM, passengers were allowed to leave the plane but had to leave their luggage behind. Some were offered mattresses to sleep at the airport, still without access to food. Their flight was rescheduled for 1:50 PM the next day.

Customer Service Failure

Upon finally arriving in Madeira, passengers found the airline's service desk closed during its supposed operating hours, adding insult to injury. DIÁRIO's attempts to contact Ryanair for comments were unsuccessful.
