PSP Arrests Three Women After Years of Targeting Tourists
Three women, long known to the PSP since 2014 for pickpocketing tourists, have been arrested again following a new robbery in central Lisbon. This time, they were placed in preventive detention.
The trio was part of a group of four foreign thieves, all detected by members of the PSP's Joint Force to Combat Pickpockets around 11:00 AM on August 13th during their usual 'work'. Officers observed their method: while two women distracted the victims, another opened the bag and removed the wallet, quickly passing it to the fourth assailant. They then fled towards the Restauradores metro station but were followed by the agents. Three were caught while dividing the contents of the wallet—which was returned to the owner—but one escaped with 200 euros in cash.
According to the PSP, "the four women are known to the police authorities and have all been implicated in this type of crime since 2014, having been detained several times in flagrante delicto."
In August alone, the PSP in Lisbon arrested over a dozen pickpockets, with eight of them placed in preventive detention.
