An operative from Afocelca—a forestry protection company owned by the pulp sector groups Altri and Navigator—was gravely injured in the afternoon during firefighting operations in Sabugal municipality. ANEPC confirmed this in a press release sent to Lusa news agency.
The severely injured individual was stabilized on-site by emergency teams and later transported by INEM helicopter to Hospital de São João in Porto.
The other four members of the Afocelca team sustained minor injuries. ANEPC reported that these injured individuals were treated on-site by INEM teams.
A source from the Beiras and Serra da Estrela Sub-Regional Command told Lusa that the critically injured person is a 45-year-old man. The alert was raised at 4:46 PM in the Vale da Senhora da Póvoa area, a locality in Penamacor municipality bordering Sabugal.
According to an Afocelca source contacted by Lusa, the employee was part of a five-person team from the company. The remaining team members will receive psychological support, the source added.
The wildfire, which had been raging in Sabugal in the Guarda district, spread to Penamacor in the Castelo Branco district, specifically in the Vale da Senhora da Póvoa zone.
