Severe Weather Warning Issued

This Sunday, most of Portugal is under a yellow warning due to heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorms affecting 13 districts starting at 09:00 AM, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The yellow warning covers the following districts:

  • Bragança
  • Viseu
  • Porto
  • Guarda
  • Vila Real
  • Santarém
  • Viana do Castelo
  • Leiria
  • Castelo Branco
  • Aveiro
  • Coimbra
  • Portalegre
  • Braga

Weather Conditions

The IPMA warns of localized heavy showers, which may occasionally include hail and thunderstorms. The yellow warning, being the least severe on a three-tier scale, is issued whenever there is a risk to certain weather-dependent activities.

Forecasts for the day indicate a generally overcast sky, with decreasing cloud cover expected by late afternoon. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are anticipated in the North and Central regions until mid-afternoon, becoming less frequent later in the day.

Wind and Temperature Forecast

Winds are expected to be weak to moderate (up to 30 km/h) from the south, occasionally strong (up to 40 km/h) in higher areas of the Central and Southern regions, switching to a westerly direction by morning.

Minimum temperatures are expected to range from 8°C (in Guarda) to 15°C (in Sagres), while maximum temperatures will vary between 13°C (in Guarda) and 20°C (in Braga, Santarém, Setúbal, Beja, and Faro).
