Police Capture Drug Trafficker in Lisbon Metro
The Judicial Police (PJ) has announced the arrest of four individuals suspected of cocaine trafficking at the Lisbon International Airport, all of whom are currently in preventive custody.
Through the National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking, the PJ apprehended a 30-year-old man suspected of drug crimes after he fled the airport's facilities. In his luggage, consisting of two travel bags, authorities discovered 43 kilograms of high-purity cocaine originating from a Latin American country.
The suspect was flagged by officials from the Tax and Customs Authority for baggage inspection but attempted to escape. PJ officers stationed at the airport pursued him, ultimately locating and arresting him minutes later at the metro station, specifically in the final section of the red line tunnel, where he was hiding in the area designated for train line changes and carriage parking.
In separate interventions, two men and a woman, aged between 22 and 24, were also arrested at the Lisbon Airport with a significant amount of cocaine, enough for at least 68,000 individual doses.
According to the PJ, two of the suspects arrived in Lisbon from a South American country, while the third traveled from a Central American nation, all with the narcotics concealed on their bodies.
All detainees have been presented for an initial judicial interrogation, facing preventive custody measures. The PJ continues its investigations.
