A 29-year-old engineering student, suspected of decapitating a 34-year-old man, has been placed in preventive detention, the most severe coercive measure, as reported by SIC Notícias. The suspect, a Nigerian postgraduate student at a Lisbon university, did not make any statements in court, despite allegedly being the one who delivered the victim's head to São José Hospital in Lisbon.
The victim, a Guinean national, was found decapitated in Pátio Salema, with the head missing until the suspect turned it in at the hospital, claiming it was "related to this situation." The crime, which involved mutilation with a kitchen knife, is believed to have occurred following a disagreement between the two men, who reportedly met only on the night of the incident. No witnesses have come forward.
According to the Judicial Police (PJ), the motive appears to be personal reasons, with no evidence linking the crime to drug trafficking or consumption. Items of probative interest, including the alleged murder weapon, have been seized.
