Strong winds reaching up to 81 km/h have led to the cancellation of more than 35 flights at Madeira International Airport - Cristiano Ronaldo this Friday, August 1st.
According to data from the Santa Catarina weather station near the airport, wind gusts peaked at 81 km/h, a record observed around 3:30 PM.
The adverse weather conditions forced several aircraft to divert to the nearby Porto Santo Airport, with some flights returning to their origin due to the inability to land at Santa Cruz's runway in Madeira.
The airport's operational halt has left hundreds of passengers stranded on the ground.
