Carlos Caneja Amorim has been announced as the campaign manager for the Northern region for Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo's presidential bid in 2026. The invitation was accepted by Amorim on a personal basis and was made public by the association Agigantar Abril, where he serves as president. Known for its civic activism, the association previously sponsored a popular lawsuit against the State, challenging the unequal funding of the José de Guimarães International Arts Center compared to other cultural capital projects. It also called for the resignation of the Supreme Court's president over comments blaming lawyers for judicial delays.

"Citizenship demands courageous stances," states the announcement of Amorim's new role. Agigantar Abril reiterates its non-partisan and pluralistic nature, committed to fostering citizenship and informed public debate.

Amorim's coordination will cover the districts of Porto, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Bragança, and Vila Real. He described the task as "colossal" but matched by the team's drive to make an impact. Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him, Amorim thanked Gouveia e Melo and the campaign's key figures, pledging to "anticipate the future and honor Portugal."
