The 95th edition of the Lisbon Book Fair kicks off today at Eduardo VII Park, promising to be "the largest bookstore in the country and the most beautiful in the world", according to Miguel Pauseiro, president of the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers.

Running until June 22, the fair invites readers "from eight to eighty" to explore a 1,600-meter route featuring 350 pavilions, including five new exhibitors, with 133 participants and nearly 960 editorial stamps offering over 85,000 works.

"This is the largest bookstore in the country and, in the magnificent setting of Eduardo VII Park, certainly the most beautiful", Pauseiro claimed. The event will host around 3,000 events, including book signings, presentations, debates, and activities for children, spread across seven squares, including the new Green Square.

Organizers hope to match last year's attendance of between 800,000 and 1 million visitors, acknowledging the "enormous responsibility in terms of security and mobility".

"After major investments in 2022 and 2023, and some adjustments in 2024, this is the year of consolidation. The goal is to enhance the experience for visitors and workers alike", Pauseiro emphasized.

Notably, the book vouchers initiative by the Ministry of Culture, aimed at encouraging reading among the youth, will not be available at the fair. These vouchers are exclusively redeemable at participating bookstores.
