Agroinovar Conference Highlights Agricultural Potential in the Algarve

The recent Agroinovar conference, held in Loulé, emerged as a crucial gathering for the agricultural sector in the Algarve. Key figures from the region's agricultural community, including Miguel Vieira Lopes (AGROGES), Joel Guerreiro (ASCAL), José Oliveira (AlgarOrange), Afonso Nascimento (FEDAGRI), Nuno Serra (CONFAGRI CCRL), and Luís Ribeiro (novobanco), came together to discuss the future of agriculture.

The Call for Unity and Stronger Public Policies

Nuno Serra, Secretary-General of the National Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives and Agricultural Credit of Portugal (CONFAGRI), emphasized the need for greater unity among agricultural stakeholders and reinforced the importance of public policies that support production, enhance local products, and lower operational costs. He stated, "The first major challenge is being overcome when the region begins to speak with one voice."

Addressing Regional Asymmetries

Despite its potential, the Algarve faces internal inequalities that hinder effective policy implementation. Serra pointed out that local knowledge is crucial for crafting realistic agricultural strategies. He warned, "Without adequate public policies, water alone is insufficient."
