The Web Summit is back, and next week, around 70,000 people will flock to this premier event dedicated to technology and startups. Here's a cheat sheet to help you plan your visit.
Many startups, entrepreneurs, investors, and even some 'angel' investors on the hunt for the next unicorn will be there. These terms have become part of the glossary for Web Summit attendees since it set up camp in Lisbon in 2016.
The summit focused on entrepreneurship and technology kicks off next week, taking over the Meo Arena and a large part of Parque das Nações for four days. Plus, complementary events like the Night Summit will spread across other parts of the city.
In this 10th edition, there aren't major changes to the formula: the central stage at the former Pavilhão Atlântico remains dedicated to keynote speakers, while the FIL pavilions host thematic stages. Sessions will cover topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, economy, and human resources. The FIL is also where you'll find small booths occupied by numerous startups at various maturity stages, all vying for investments to grow.
At least 115 Portuguese startups are participating, having made it through the Road 2 Web Summit program. This year, the selected companies operate in areas like AI and machine learning, health tech, logistics and hardware, or finance.
The Web Summit organization expects to welcome 70,000 attendees this year, in line with last edition's statistics, and over 2,500 startups.
When and Where Is It Happening?
The 10th edition of the Web Summit in Lisbon starts next Monday, November 10, and ends on Thursday, November 13.
As usual, the event will occupy part of Parque das Nações, the Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL), and the Meo Arena, where the main stage of the tech summit is located.
How to Get to the Web Summit?
If you're not among the participants affected by the 'shortage of private jet slots' warned by the event organizers, public transport is the most recommended option to avoid traffic jams and parking hassles. You can reach Parque das Nações by bus, metro, or train.
By bus, lines 705 and 744 go from the airport to the Web Summit location. If you're in central Lisbon, several options are available, such as buses 708, 728, 759, 782, or 794. There's also a direct shuttle between Oriente and Praça do Comércio, operated by Carris.
By metro, you can get to Oriente, about 300 meters from the Meo Arena, via the red line.
As in previous editions, a Web Summit transport pass is available, allowing travel between Lisbon, Sintra, and Cascais by metro, bus, tram, or urban train. There are three options: a one-day pass (€10, online only), a three-day pass (€23), and a five-day pass (€31.50).
Passes can be purchased until November 12, inclusive, online or at sales points at Lisbon Airport (from November 8 to 11) or at Lisbon's Gare Intermodal (only on November 11). If bought online, you'll receive a voucher that must be exchanged for a ticket at Metro automatic machines—this can be done from November 6 to 16.
A note: For participants traveling from other parts of the country via CP, be aware of the ticket inspectors' strike. A partial strike called by S.F.R.C.I. – Sindicato Ferroviário da Revisão e Comercial Itinerante is ongoing, with more significant impact on long-distance services (Alfa Pendular and Intercidades).
In the notice available on CP's website, 'disruptions in circulation, with special impact on November 10' are mentioned.
Services like app-based transport (TVDE), such as Bolt or Uber, will also be available.
What If You Really Want to Take the Car?
For those insisting on driving, there's a partnership with Telpark, allowing you to reserve a parking spot at a fixed price of €6.90 per day. However, none of the parking lots covered by this promotion are near Parque das Nações. The full list of parking lots can be checked here.
The parking lots closest to the Web Summit (Oceanário parking and Gare do Oriente parking), also managed by Telpark, will be available but at the standard rates.
