The alleged perpetrator of a bomb hoax on a SATA Azores Airlines flight, which forced an emergency landing at Lisbon Airport today, has been arrested and will be presented in court, according to the Judicial Police (PJ).
The bomb threat, which diverted flight S4 504 from Ponta Delgada to Bilbao (Spain) this morning, was not validated by the competent authorities after a thorough inspection of the aircraft and luggage, SATA Azores Airlines reported.
Following the completion of necessary procedures by the authorities, the aircraft was cleared to resume operations. The airline has rescheduled the Lisbon-Bilbao connection for tonight, with takeoff expected at 20:00, carrying 111 passengers. The two passengers detained in connection with the incident will not continue their journey.
A source from the PJ confirmed to Lusa that one individual has been detained for allegedly causing the situation and will be brought before the court for their first interrogation as a detained suspect, with coercive measures to be applied.
