Angolan citizens took to the streets in Lisbon and London this Friday, calling for the respect of human rights in their home country. The protest in Lisbon, organized by the opposition party UNITA (National Union for the Total Independence of Angola), saw around 50 participants gathering in front of the Angolan consulate from 9:00 AM. By 3:00 PM, the group remained, voicing their demands for accountability from the Angolan government regarding recent violent incidents in Angola.
In a parallel demonstration, approximately 30 Angolans protested outside the Angolan Embassy in London, echoing the calls for human rights respect. The diplomatic institution in Lisbon did not open its doors, a move attributed to the announced protest.
The protesters highlighted the urgent need for governmental accountability and the protection of human rights, following last week's turmoil in Angola that resulted in several deaths. The demonstrations underscore the growing international concern over the situation in Angola and the diaspora's active role in advocating for change.
