Constitutional Court Dismisses Appeals in Banking Cartel Case: A Major Blow to Competition Authority

The Constitutional Court (TC) has decided not to even consider the appeals filed by the Competition Authority (AdC) and the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) aimed at stopping the statute of limitations in the case known as the banking cartel. This is another setback for those entities, which wanted to see 11 national banks, including Caixa Geral de Depósitos and Banco Comercial Português, fined a total of 225 million euros. There is now only a glimmer of hope left for the prosecution side.
