Thousands gathered in Lisbon this Saturday, June 7, to march for LGBTI+ rights, emphasizing the importance of living with dignity and resisting the normalization of hate speech. Under the banner “Not one step back!”, the 26th LGBTI+ Pride March in Lisbon kicked off at Marquês de Pombal shortly after 5 PM.
The march was vibrant, with participants drumming and chanting slogans like “Here you see the strength of LGBT”. Many carried signs with powerful messages such as “This is love in the form of protest” and “Being who I am shouldn’t be an act of courage”.
The event's manifesto, titled “Resist and not just exist!”, highlighted concerns over the attack on freedoms and democracies, the lack of fair recognition for workers, and the offensive against the Citizenship and Development curriculum by the AD government. It also condemned the situation in Gaza as a “live-served genocide” and criticized the ongoing war against refugees and migrants, alongside the persistence of racism.
The march was a call to action, advocating for all human rights and standing in solidarity with communities targeted by far-right policies. It underscored the commitment to defend freedom not just during the Pride March but every day.
