Emergency Response at Avencas Beach
A fishing vessel sank this Friday morning at Avencas Beach in Parede, Cascais municipality, leading to the rescue of two fishermen who sustained minor injuries.
The alert was received at 7:46 AM. According to Civil Protection authorities, both fishermen were successfully rescued and received immediate medical assistance on-site from firefighters and INEM emergency medical services.
Heroic Rescue Operation
"The boat capsized, and the fishermen became trapped against the vessel. One was rescued by surfists, while the second was brought to safety using a jet ski," revealed a source from the Greater Lisbon Sub-Regional Command to Lusa news agency.
Subsequent information from the National Maritime Authority confirmed that both men aboard the Lisbon-based local fishing boat suffered minor injuries. "The two fishermen, with minor injuries, were rescued by surfists and lifeguards and transported to the hospital," the authority stated.
Condition of the Fishermen
CMTV reporters at the scene gathered that the two men are approximately 30 and 40 years old and showed signs of hypothermia after spending about 20 minutes in the water.
Vessel Recovery Plans
Authorities are now preparing to remove the sunken vessel from the water, but must wait for low tide at Avencas Beach, which is expected to occur during the afternoon hours.
