Cristina Vaz Tomé, the former Secretary of State for Health Management, is poised to take on a new role as the president of the Lisbon Metro's administrative council. This move comes after a tumultuous period in her political career, marked by controversy and resilience.
A Controversial Tenure
During her time as Secretary of State, Vaz Tomé faced significant scrutiny. The INEM strike last year led to severe delays in emergency responses, with investigations launched into 11 deaths allegedly caused by the lack of pre-hospital emergency technicians. Despite calls for her resignation, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro stood by her, even excluding her from the February government reshuffle.
A New Leadership Role
Now, Vaz Tomé is set to bring her experience to the Lisbon Metro, a critical infrastructure project for the city. Her appointment signals a fresh start and a new challenge in her career.
