A touching sand tribute has been created in the Algarve for Greg Monks, a Lanarkshire man who tragically passed away during a stag trip to Portugal. The 38-year-old from Cambuslang disappeared after leaving friends in Albufeira in the early hours of May 28, and his body was found days later.
Portuguese artist Vitor Raposo crafted a large sand design on Praia Maria Luisa beach to honor Mr. Monks, sharing the poignant artwork on social media. This gesture provided some solace to his family during the week of his funeral, held at Daldowie Crematorium.
Community support shines through as over £34,000 was raised to aid Mr. Monks' loved ones. His sister, Jillian, expressed how the tribute and the overwhelming support from locals and those who had moved to the area brought comfort, highlighting the goodness in people during such a difficult time.
The family is still grappling with the loss, describing the void left by Greg's passing as immense. The funeral, attended by many and watched by people worldwide, underscored the deep affection and respect held for him.
Greg was last seen leaving Albufeira's main strip during a stag party. A extensive search led by the Portuguese Policia Judiciaria concluded when his body was found in the Cerro de Aguia area, a ravine approximately 5km from his last known location.
Vitor Raposo, known for his beach designs, has once again used his art to commemorate a life, adding to his portfolio of tributes, marriage proposals, and anniversaries.
