Boosting Innovation and Sustainability in the Algarve's Agri-Food Sector
Initiative focuses on innovation and sustainability to strengthen the competitiveness of the region's agri-food SMEs.
The agri-food sector in the Algarve is gaining new momentum through the AGROPYME AVANZA AAA Project, a cross-border initiative that brings together Alentejo, Algarve, and Andalusia with the goal of enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs in the Euroregion. The project focuses on three key strategic areas: innovation, digitalization, and sustainability.
In the innovation aspect, the project is supporting companies in defining solutions that boost profitability and growth. In the realm of digitalization, it contributes to the digital transition of SMEs. For sustainability, it promotes the adoption of more responsible business models, focusing on rationalizing resource use and reducing environmental impact.
The results achieved so far confirm the positive impact of the initiative: 20 agri-food companies have already benefited from capacity-building actions in key areas; 20 companies received specialized consultancy for developing diagnostics and competitiveness plans; and 10 companies are implementing their competitiveness plans.
The AGROPYME AVANZA AAA is a cross-border project, co-financed by the Interreg Spain-Portugal Programme (POCTEP) 2021-2027, developed in partnership by NERA – Business Association of the Algarve Region, the University of Algarve, ADRAL – Regional Development Agency of Alentejo, NERE – Business Nucleus of the Évora Region, Fundación Andanatura for Sustainable Socioeconomic Development, and Fundación Pública Andaluza Andalucía Emprende.
