Emergency Meeting Points in Lisbon

In preparation for potential disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, and floods, Lisbon has designated 86 Emergency Meeting Points throughout the city. These locations serve as safe havens where residents should gather in the event of an evacuation order, awaiting guidance from civil protection agents, including police, firefighters, and INEM.

The points were selected based on various criteria including their exposure to natural and technological risks, capacity to accommodate large groups, accessibility, and the condition of surrounding buildings. For a detailed map of these points, visit the official Lisbon map.

New Online Platform for Disaster Preparedness

Additionally, the city has launched the LxReSist platform, which provides guidance on steps to take in case of a disaster or accident. Residents can also opt to receive SMS notifications from municipal civil protection by registering with the text AVISOSLX to 927 944 000.

When to Evacuate your Home?

Authorities advise that staying indoors is not safe during emergencies like earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, or fires. Evacuating to designated public spaces helps organize subsequent operations and provides better support to the population.

Carlos Moedas, the president of the municipal council, emphasized that the city is not only preparing but is already prepared, highlighting ongoing work on drainage tunnels designed to prevent flooding.

The Municipal Emergency Civil Protection Plan was approved in 2019 and is currently under review since November 2023.
