Rail traffic on the Cascais Line between Alcântara Mar and Cais do Sodré is currently operating on an alternating basis following an overhead wire failure on Friday evening, which initially suspended all services, according to CP (Comboios de Portugal).
“Rail traffic between Alcântara Mar and Cais do Sodré is running alternately. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” CP stated today.
On Friday night, services were halted between Algés (Oeiras) and Cais do Sodré (Lisbon), a disruption the railway company attributed to a problem with the overhead wire (catenary).
In response to the suspension, CP announced the reinforcement of Carris route 201 to accommodate affected passengers. By early Saturday morning, CP confirmed that the suspension between Algés and Cais do Sodré, which began at 22:30 on Friday, remained in effect.
Emergency services were dispatched to assist passengers disembarking from a train that had stopped outside a station. Despite ongoing repair efforts by Infraestruturas de Portugal, CP admitted that a resolution was not expected in the near future.
Normal service continues between Algés and Cascais, CP highlighted on its Facebook page. This section is crucial for attendees of the Alive festival in Oeiras, running until Saturday. Festival-goers with combined NOS Alive + Linha de Cascais or TTSL tickets were advised to purchase their transport tickets onboard the bus.
