Mariana Mortágua's Message from Detention
The Portuguese consul in contact with members detained by Israel as part of the interception of the humanitarian flotilla heading to Gaza revealed a message from Mariana Mortágua to her family this Friday. "Mom, I'm fine, but they didn't treat us well, without food or water for 48 hours," can be read in the photograph published by Joana Mortágua, the Bloco de Esquerda leader's sister, on social media.

"Call a protest, contact Joana T and BE," Mariana Mortágua also said. It was further revealed by the consul that the Bloco de Esquerda leader "is in a cell with 12" people and that the Portuguese ambassador to Israel "had or was going to make a complaint regarding the complaints."
Interception of the Humanitarian Flotilla
The vessel "Adara," where the Bloco de Esquerda coordinator was traveling, was intercepted by Israeli authorities on Wednesday night. Three other Portuguese citizens were also intercepted by Israeli forces, namely Sofia Aparício, Miguel Duarte, and Diogo Chaves.
Ambassador Helena Paiva, who visited the Portuguese citizens, "was able to confirm that everyone was in good health despite the difficult and harsh conditions upon arrival at the port of Ashdod and in the detention center," indicated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement issued this Friday.
Widespread Protests
The interception of the Humanitarian Flotilla heading to Gaza by Israeli forces has led to protest actions nationally and internationally. On Thursday, there was a gathering in front of the Israeli embassy in Lisbon, which included more than a thousand people. In Porto, protest actions also blocked streets.
