In May, the number of Portuguese citizens without a family doctor reached 1,644,807, marking an increase of 42,230 compared to the same month in 2024. This represents a significant rise in the percentage of individuals without an assigned doctor, from 15.27% in April to 15.55% in May, according to data from the National Patient Registry reviewed by CM.
The situation highlights the growing strain on Portugal's healthcare system, with 11,106 more people left without a family doctor in just one month. The continuous increase underscores the urgent need for solutions to address the shortage of healthcare professionals and ensure access to medical care for all citizens.
