Alexandra Leitão, the Socialist Party's candidate for the Lisbon Municipal Council, has decided not to include Pedro Costa in her team. Despite Costa's public willingness to run as a councilor and being nominated by the local PS chapter, he was never contacted by Leitão for the role.
The approved list, confirmed on Monday, shows Costa's exclusion from Leitão's selections, even after his nomination. Costa expressed his understanding of the decision to Observador, stating, "Individual desires only make sense when serving the collective. I understand there are other choices, and I'm confident the PS will have a stronger list than the PSD. The party has every chance to win the elections. It's all up to them."
Leitão has chosen Pedro Anastácio, Carla Madeira, and Sérgio Cintra as her socialist candidates. The PS also reserves the right to nominate the ninth and tenth candidates, positions considered nearly unelectable. Additional candidates will come from partners like Livre, Bloco de Esquerda, and PAN.
The municipal elections are scheduled for October 12.
