Shocking Discovery by Waste Collection Workers
Waste collection workers in Cascais made a macabre discovery during the early hours of Saturday morning. The body of a 45-year-old man was found with one arm trapped in a used clothing and footwear collection machine, suggesting he may have died after waiting hours for someone to pass by and help.
Timeline of the Tragedy
The news was first reported by the online newspaper Cascais24horas and confirmed to CM by a source from the Cascais Civil Protection. The alert was given at 1:20 AM on Saturday by employees of Cascais Ambiente company who were passing through Rosa Parracho Street in the Bairro do Rosário neighborhood.
However, according to CM's investigation, witnesses revealed to PSP that the victim had been seen near the container around 10:00 PM on Friday. This fact indicates he may have been trapped for 3 to 4 hours in the used clothing and footwear collection equipment.
Rescue Efforts and Circumstances
In addition to police resources, Cascais firefighters were also called to the scene. "Apparently the man had tried to take something from inside the container and one of his arms got trapped, in the armpit area, in the spring system that the machine has," explained the same source.
The Cascais firefighters, with 7 operational personnel supported by two vehicles, had to open the rear part of the container to release the body.
Victim's Background and Aftermath
"The man lived in the area and had a wife and children," added the same source.
After confirmation of death by a health delegate, a team of firefighters transported the victim's body to the medical-legal office of the Guia Cemetery, where it will be autopsied.
