The German Christian Bruckner is the main suspect in the disappearance of the English girl in the Algarve in 2007
This Tuesday, the Portuguese and German police initiated new searches in the Lagos area, Algarve, as part of the investigations into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in May 2007. A Spanish program has suggested the reason behind the German authorities' request for these searches.
Christian Bruckner, detained for another crime, has been considered the sole suspect in the Algarve case since 2020. These searches aim to gather more evidence of his possible involvement in the child's disappearance.
On Telecinco, it was mentioned that investigators are now inspecting abandoned houses in the area. They have located a satellite photo from June of the same year, one month after the girl's disappearance, showing a tent allegedly used by Bruckner.
Heriberto Janosch, a criminologist specialized in this investigation, provided details on 'O programa de Ana Rosa', a show dedicated to criminal information and investigations. "The photo might show a tent. We need to analyze it in depth. But we have something new," he started by saying.
"We've been reviewing images from 2007 of the entire area, and there are ruined houses. In fact, what appears in the 2007 images is that many of these houses were perfectly habitable. Bruckner could have occupied them," the expert said. All these buildings are now being investigated for new clues about Madeleine.
The searches, using ground-penetrating radar and drones, will continue until Friday. According to CNN Portugal, animal bones and adult clothing have been found, but no traces of Maddie.
On the night Madeleine disappeared at the Ocean Club resort, her parents, Gerry and Kate—who were once considered suspects in Portugal—were dining with friends at a restaurant a short walk away. Madeleine and her younger twin siblings were sleeping in the ground-floor apartment. The parents took turns checking on the children until around 10 p.m., when the mother reported Maddie missing from the room.
