The University of Algarve (UAlg) is set to enhance its educational offerings with the construction of two new buildings in Faro and Portimão, thanks to an €8 million investment aimed at strengthening technical higher professional courses. This initiative, announced by the Algarve's Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), is part of the ALGARVE 2030 Regional Program.
Key developments include:
- A new building in the Gambelas campus, Faro, dedicated to digital and technological courses.
- Another in the polytechnic building at the Portimão campus, on land provided by the municipality, to accommodate more technical courses and expand the western region's educational capacity.
Additionally, the project will modernize classrooms at the School of Education and Communication and the Food Innovation Laboratory in the Penha campus, Faro, with updated technical equipment.
Expected outcomes by 2025/26:
- Increase from 11 to 15 technical higher professional courses.
- Student numbers to rise from 417 to 460.
- Addition of 615 more classroom spaces by 2026.
This investment not only aims to improve teaching quality with modern facilities and individualized learning equipment but also seeks to enhance cooperation with businesses, aligning with the region's technological and economic priorities. The Algarve is positioning itself as a magnet for higher education students, offering programs that meet the region's developmental needs.
