The Boom Festival, a renowned event in Idanha-a-Nova, has been marred by arrests related to drug trafficking. This year's edition, which started on Thursday and concludes on the 24th, saw three more individuals detained on Saturday, bringing the total to seven arrests. The suspects, aged between 32 and 52, are accused of selling narcotics to festival-goers.
During the arrests, authorities seized a significant amount of drugs, including 34 MDMA pills, 43 grams of MDMA powder, 30 LSD micro tabs, 200 micrograms of liquid LSD, 2,000 hallucinogenic mushrooms, and €11,000 in cash believed to be proceeds from sales.
The operation was spearheaded by the Guarda Criminal Investigation Department, with support from the National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking and the Scientific Police Laboratory. The detainees are set to face their first judicial interrogation, with investigations managed by the Castelo Branco Department of Investigation and Penal Action.
Earlier, on the festival's second day, four individuals were caught red-handed selling drugs, leading to the confiscation of an even larger stash, including hundreds of MDMA pills, LSD, and other substances.
This year's Boom Festival, themed "The ritual of dance", sold out its 40,000 tickets in just two days, attracting attendees from 169 countries. The event, known for its harmony between humans and nature, spans 150 hectares and features 21 programming areas with 1,128 artists from 29 nationalities.
