Daniel Dunbar, a 29-year-old British citizen, has been detained by the Lisbon Judicial Police (PJ) for the murder of Daniel Galhanas, a 19-year-old who was fatally struck in the neck with a glass bottle on October 14, 2023, in Lisbon's Bairro Alto district.
Since last week, the suspect has been in preventive detention at the prison annex to the PJ headquarters on Gomes Freire Street in Lisbon. He will remain there awaiting formal charges for qualified homicide.
The extradition of Dunbar to Portugal was only finalized last week. After the crime, Dunbar fled to London with friends. The PJ took over the investigation and, about two months later, had a credible portrait of the murderer. The extradition process then began, which Dunbar opposed. Only recently was a judicial order issued to bring him back to Portugal.
