The envelopes containing votes from Portuguese citizens living abroad have started to be opened in Portugal. Nearly 300,000 ballots have been received, with 240,000 coming from the European electoral district.
This year's count is particularly significant as it could determine the second-largest political force in Portugal. A total of four deputies will be elected, which may break the current tie between the PS and CHEGA parties, both holding the same number of parliamentary seats.
The process is under close watch, as the outcome could have a substantial impact on the political landscape in Portugal. The votes from emigrants are proving to be more crucial than ever in shaping the future of the country's legislative assembly.
