Youtubers Capture 'Insane' Landing Attempt at Madeira Airport
On August 1st, a Boeing 737-800 operated by British airline Jet2 was forced to execute a vertical 'go around' due to strong winds affecting operations at Madeira International Airport - Cristiano Ronaldo. This dramatic maneuver was captured on video by the YouTube channel 'Madeira Aviation Spotting'.
What is a 'Go Around'?
A 'go around', also known as a missed approach, occurs when a pilot decides to abort the landing and climb back into the air. This can happen due to poor visibility, unstable approach, or, as in this case, adverse weather conditions like strong winds.

Airport Operations Resume Normally
Despite the challenging conditions on Saturday, operations at Madeira Airport have returned to normal, according to ANA-Aeroportos de Portugal. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts light to moderate winds for the region, ensuring safer flying conditions.
Weather Forecast for Madeira
The IPMA predicts "weak to moderate (up to 30 km/h) north winds" for Madeira, with lighter winds (below 15 km/h) expected in the Funchal area. The general weather outlook for the archipelago includes periods of significant cloudiness, especially on the north side and Porto Santo Island.
