Garcia de Orta Hospital Welcomes Seven New Obstetricians
Seven new obstetricians have joined the Hospital Garcia de Orta in Almada this month, as pledged by Health Minister Ana Paula Martins. However, the reality differs from initial announcements. Not all doctors left the private sector to join the National Health Service (SNS), and only four have filled the carenciadas vacancies, which come with financial incentives.
The Unidade Local de Saúde Almada-Seixal (ULSAS), overseeing the hospital, has not guaranteed a 24-hour emergency response, contrary to expectations. Instead, they emphasize the need to further strengthen the service to meet demands.
This development raises questions about the fulfillment of government promises and the ongoing challenges in Portugal's healthcare system.
