Knife Attack at Damaia Mosque During Morning Prayer
A man armed with two knives stormed the Damaia mosque in the Sintra Line area during the early morning prayer session, shouting "I kill! I kill!" while threatening worshippers and the mosque's second imam.
The incident occurred shortly after 5 AM when the suspect entered the religious facility during morning prayers. Witnesses reported the man was brandishing two knives and making direct threats toward both the congregation and religious leaders present.
Quick Police Response Prevents Tragedy
The Public Security Police (PSP) responded within minutes of receiving the alert and successfully detained the suspect before anyone was physically harmed. The rapid intervention by law enforcement prevented what could have been a much more serious incident.
Mental Health Concerns, Not Religious Extremism
Mosque officials have confirmed the suspect was actually a member of their own religious community and emphasized that he appeared to be "mentally unbalanced" rather than motivated by any specific grievance against the people he threatened. Authorities have ruled out any connection to Islamic radicalism or targeted hatred against the Muslim community.
The mosque leadership stressed that the individual had no concrete issues with the people he threatened and that this appears to be an isolated incident driven by mental health concerns rather than religious or political motivations.
