Major Investment in Portugal by Lufthansa Technik
The construction of a new facility by Lufthansa Technik, located approximately 35 kilometers south of Porto, is set to significantly bolster the company's capabilities in engine parts repair and aircraft components. This initiative aligns with Lufthansa Technik's strategic goals.
The facility is projected to be completed by the end of 2027 and will feature cutting-edge technologies in the MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) industry. This development will create more than 700 jobs, with applications opening as soon as next year.
Lufthansa Technik has recently acquired a 230,000 square meter property in the “Lusopark” business park located in Santa Maria da Feira. The signing of the purchase agreement was celebrated alongside representatives from both the political and business sectors in Portugal.
A New Chapter for Lufthansa Technik
Harald Gloy, Chief Operating Officer of Lufthansa Technik, stated, "A new chapter begins today for Lufthansa Technik: For the first time in the company’s history, we are building and opening our own location in Portugal. We are honored to have been welcomed with open arms here in Santa Maria da Feira."
He emphasized the company's ambitious growth targets and the intention to expand its position as a global market leader in the MRO sector. By strategically adding new locations to its network, Lufthansa Technik aims to meet the expectations of its 800 international customers.
Collaborative Efforts with Local Government
The cooperation with the Portuguese government, represented by the AICEP (Agência para o Investimento e Comércio Externo de Portugal), and the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira was highly collaborative, providing strong support throughout the process.
Pedro Reis, the Portuguese Minister of Economy, remarked, "This significant investment by Lufthansa Technik in Portugal, which creates more than 700 jobs, is highly welcome. It represents a step toward the reindustrialization of our country and demonstrates confidence in our infrastructure and skilled workforce in the aeronautics sector."
Amadeu Albergaria, Mayor of Santa Maria da Feira, added, "We are delighted to welcome Lufthansa Technik. This investment strengthens the economic community and adds value to the region."
Focus on Training and Development
Key factors influencing the selection of this location included Portugal’s EU position, a stable political environment, and a strong labor market. Lufthansa Technik plans to establish a training center in Santa Maria da Feira next year to prepare future employees, ensuring that production can commence upon the facility's completion.
The first job postings for this new location will be available online in the coming weeks, seeking mechanics, electronics technicians, engineers, and HR managers.
